Planets are shaped like a slightly squashed ball (called a spheroid). Objects that orbit planets are called satellites. There are more planets than stars in our galaxy. The current count orbiting our star: eight. The inner, rocky planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. The earth has conditions that support life . It is neither too hot nor too cold. It has both water and air, which are both indispensable for life . Presence of oxygen in the air in an appropriate proportion supports life .

The best estimate from a 1999 study set that number at about 125 billion galaxies, and a 2013 study indicated that there are 225 billion galaxies in the observable universe.
